Iran, world powers face off in 'last chance' nuclear talks


Iran and world power today protected horns in Moscow for a new round of high-stakes talks on the controversial Iranian nuclear programmed seen as a last chance to solve the crisis discreetly.
Chief Iranian nuclear negotiator Saeed Jalili sit down with representatives from 6 world powers including Tehran's arch foe the United States for 2 days of talks which will show if there is any hope of progress in resolve the standoff.
With an initial show of procedure smiles and polite cordiality, Jalili and the Iranian negotiating team sat at one surface of the table opposite the envoys of the 6 world powers and EU foreign policy chief Catherine Ashton.
Failure in the talks could bear a heavy cost with the United States and its ally Israel refuse to rule out the option of airstrikes alongside the Iranian nuclear programmed and Tehran facing sanctions that could cripple the economy.
But Iran made clear in front of the negotiations it has no intention of abandoning its correct to enrich uranium, the process which can be used to make nuclear fuel but also the volatile core of an atomic bomb.
If this demand isn't recognized, the negotiations are certainly headed for breakdown,” an unidentified Iranian official at the talks supposed, according to position news agency IRNA.
Russia's Kommersant daily supposed Iran would be offered a cooperation plan under which it would scale down the degree to which uranium is enriched at its main enhancement facility in Natanz from 20 percent to 5 per cent.
